On August 21, 2017, for the first time in almost 30 years, a total solar eclipse will be visible from the continental U.S. in a 71-mile-wide path stretching from Oregon to South Carolina. From the Chicago area, about 85% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon. A partial solar eclipse will start at 11:54am and continue until 2:42pm, being at its peak at 1:19pm.
The library will have an ALL AGES viewing party to celebrate this rare celestial event. Stop by and watch the eclipse!
Grumpy Gaucho's food truck will be on site serving empanadas! We will also have Bettina's Teas and the Cream King (ice cream).
We are beyond excited to announce that the legendary Ralph Covert is donating a performance to our Solar Eclipse Party on Monday. Ralph fronts the "Ralph's World" band, is a Grammy award nominee, Disney recording star and known for his work with the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Chicago based band "The Bad Examples." Ralph will be at our event from 12 noon - 2 p.m. He will perform and be available for autographs as time allows.
