Event Details

Interested in saving money on groceries and prolonging the life of your food? John and Char Johnson-Dunlop will discuss how to freeze and dehydrate foods during a hands-on demonstration where they will discuss and display “put up” fruit jerkies, frozen produce and other healthy treats. Food safety will be addressed during the program, and questions from the audience will be encouraged. With gardeners harvesting their fresh fruits and vegetables at this time of year, the timing is perfect to learn these life skills, which will enable individuals to extend beyond the growing season the life of the healthy foods they grow. But you don’t need to be a gardener to learn these skills – farmers’ market produce is also ideal for freezing or dehydrating. This program is by The Just Food Initiative of the Fox Valley, a nonprofit organization in Batavia that is committed to building sustainable and just food systems, as well as restoring quality and equality to the food supply.
